Hi Everyone,
Just discovered this forum and would like to introduce ourselves. We've lived abroad for many years (I'm a construction engineer), I'm Scottish, my wife's Finnish, we met in Istanbul and presently live in Romania (yeah ... construction ..... ).
We hope to retire to the life of leisure ;D in the next couple or three years and having lived in Istanbul for quite a bit, decided a while ago that Turkey was the place to settle.
We just recently got ourselves some building land in Koycegiz, just on the east side of the village. Might even have a lake view, if we build 2 storeys and a watch tower!
Just wondering whether to build the "house of our dreams" on one plot and leave it empty till we live here permanently or to build a couple of smaller villas as an investment for the retirement pot!
Any views?
Look forward to meeting some of the other forum members on our next visit (probably next June. alas)

Hi Spike Having just moved into our house in the area myself but having lived in the area whilst it was being built, I think I would sit on the land and wait till you are ready to build your dream house. Koycegiz doesn't get over run with tourists so actually renting out villas for holidays is not particularly big business hear at the moment (although things may change). As I say others who have far more knowledge than me may tell you differently. But I never feel it's good to leave places empty if you are not hear permanently, whether rental villas or your own dream home.

Hi Spike, Welcome to koycegiz forum. i think would be good to build small villas for investment because the property price always go up here. for more information you can send an email to our sponsor Koycegiz Real Estate www.koycegizrealestate.net. Happy posting Bulent

Hi Spike
Welcome to the forum - Paul and I have a bungalow in Koycegiz which we bought 2 years ago now (god how time flies)
We are hoping to retire in around 6 months - or earlier if the house sells (anyone want a 3 bed semi in Yorkshire - I know were there is one!!!)
We can only visit around 2/3 times a year - but the house is perfectly safe - we know some very very nice people who keep their eye on the place - but there is little or no crime in koycegiz as far as I can see.
If you need any help just post
bye for now
Andrea
