An update to Ann's posting...... As from 1st. Oct., the electric charges went up just over 9%, which means an increase of 58% since 1st. Jan 2008. The Government passed a Bill allowing the electric suppliers to have an automatic price increase every 3 mths.,subject to Govt. approval, they applied for 15% and got 9%. Apparently, it's to cover increased costs, we will have another increase in Jan 2009. I don't know how the Turks cope with these increases. To conclude, has'nt anyone in Turkey ever considered how they can reduce costs

Extracted from Fethiye Times web site.-( Inflation Part 1 )
Between Oct.2004 and Oct.2008 prices have gone up 48%.(average of 12% per year ). At this rate, prices will double every 8yrs. Normally, high inflation in one country, is offset by an exchange rate value of a currency from a lower inflation economy is comparable. Take the Turkish Lira against the GBPound. The Lira today is almost worth the same as 4yrs. ago, and so in theory, the Lira should be worth 50% more at 3.30 YTL. Thats why regular visitors to Turkey and Ex-Pats are complaining that things are getting more expensive.

Hooray, , as from 1st Jan 09, electric bills are increasing by 1.18%. Oil is now costing 40$ a barrel, why this increase is implemented at all confuses me, they used the reason of high oil prices (147$ a barrel ) to increase the the price by nearly 90% in 2008, by my reasoning, we should have a price reduction. I am not so confused now, Industry electricity costs are being reduced by 1.07%, and you can work out who is paying for this reduction. I suppose that some elections being held in March could have a bearing on this low increase, but immediately after the elections the quarterly increase comes into effect. Beware of a man bearing gifts!!!!!
