Can anyone tell me if it is okay to keep chickens in Koycegiz area. Is it easy to get different breeds and feed and also is there any natural predators if they are let to roam free, like our rascal fox here in the UK? Any info gratefully received plan to move there for good in November so trying to get as much info prior.
Thanks Andrew

yes it is ok to keep chickens in Koycegiz, most turkish families do, though haven't met any english who do, there are a few varities, though not like the english ones to look at, they don't seem to have to same legs, they have really spindly legs with not much meat on them. Haven't heard of any predators that affect the chickens, they do let them roam free in the day and put them in a wooded shelter at night, which is usually just a few pieces of wood lodged against each other. And also worth bringing over from th UK, are seeds for planting and growing your own veggies. Also a lime tree might be a good investment, right conditions for one, but they don't seem to grow them in Turkey, which is strange, orange and lemon trees are plentiful.

Thanks Ann, I know what you mean by the scrawny appearance, I just assumed it was the feed that made them look so as we spoil our chickens here in uk with porridge, rice and spagehetti as well as their layer feeds.

I know, I used to spend a lot of time when I was at the pension watching the house opposite with theirs, they are quite funny to watch, they even had turkeys one time, not sure what they get fed on really, though you do see them feeding them with bread, same as the cats and dogs, seems to be the staple diet, days old bread. Anyway I will be at the pension next Jan for 3 months, so if you are ever passing call in and see us.
