A step by step guide of what you need to do to obtain your Turkish MOT and what the outcomes of the test are.Step 1 - Check Your Paper WorkMake sure you have the following items:
1. Traffic registration document for your vehicle
2. Traffic Form (The other small form where the visa is noted) that should also include an up to date exhaust emissions test stamp/sticker (See part 1 for more details on the emissions test),
3. Valid Third Party insurance certificate (Trafik Sigortasi).
Double check the registration agrees with your vehicle or your vehicle won’t be accepted for the test.
Also check the dates too to make sure you have the correct policy and not an old one you may have picked up by mistake.
Step 2 - Check your Vehicle for Simple FaultsHave you been meaning to get that cracked windscreen fixed or that broken bulb replaced?
Repairing the obvious may sound just that but it could save time if you get them fixed before taking the test rather than fail and have to return again.
It could also be worth taking your car for a service and pre test check again to save time.
Step 3 - Name the DayWhen you know when your visa is due set a date when you plan to get the test done. (See part 1 for more information on when the test is due)
Note: Although the testing station is open on Saturday’s the Maliye (Tax office) isn’t.
Watch out for public holidays too when the Maliye and testing station will be closed.
Step 4 - Gather your paperwork and visit the Maliye (Tax Office) The Maliye is open at 8:00am Monday to Friday.
Go to desk with “MTV” sign above it.
Say you need a new visa and pass over your vehicle documents.
If any outstanding taxes or fines are due you’ll need to pay them at the cashiers (Vezne) booth behind you for which you will receive a receipt.
Return to the MTV desk and show them your receipt. You will be handed a form “İlişik Kesme Belgesi / Fenni Muayne Belgisi” which you may need to note your address and phone number on the back of the form.
This form will be signed by the “MTV” clerk.
The clerk will then pass to the form to the next desk for signature and stamping (Your left).
You will then be shown the office on your left where you will need to take the form to be signed again and then stamped.
Step 5 – Go to the Testing StationThe parking outside doesn't represent a queue just a holding area.
Arrive early
If you do arrive early (before the testing station opens) make sure you take a number as soon as the testing station opens otherwise you'll be queue jumped by others.
The testing station covers vehicles from a large geographical area so at times demand for tests can outstrip the capacity of the testing station.
Step 6 – Present your vehicle paper work and pay the testing feeGo to the admin office
As you enter the office on your left is a ticket machine. Take a ticket and wait for your number to be shown on the electronic board.
When your number comes up present your paper work to the clerk:
1. Traffic registration document,
2. Traffic Form (The other small form where the visa is noted) that should include an up to date exhaust emissions test stamp/sticker,
3. Tax office form “İlişik Kesme Belgesi / Fenni Muayne Belgisi” which shows all tax and fines are up to date that you just obtained from the Maliye (Tax Office),
4. Valid Third Party insurance certificate (trafik Sigortasi).
The clerk will check all the details are correct and, if they are, will request your test fee:
Scooter, motor bike 63.72 TL
Cars, vans, van derived cars 123.90 TL
(All 2009 prices)
ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE IN CASH - NO CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED
A receipt will be given to you and your test will be queued on the computer system.
When your turn comes one of the testing staff will call your name, or if they can’t pronounce your name, your registration.
Step 7 – The TestDrive your vehicle into the compound and park where directed.
The member of the testing staff will then begin the test. Make sure you show them where your traffic set is stowed (first aid kit, fire extinguisher etc) to save time.
Your vehicle will later move into the testing station whilst you wait outside.
When the test is completed the vehicle testing person will come and find you.
