Well if you look at the prices of utilities etc, then ponder the minimum wage. Cut & Paste from Todays Zaman www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&link=162327The Minimum Wage Determination Commission yesterday set the minimum wage as YTL 527 for workers over the age of 16. The final decision on the minimum wage will go into effect on Jan. 1. The new round in the ongoing minimum wage talks between the government and representatives of employer and labor unions was interrupted yesterday following the withdrawal of the Confederation of Turkish Labor Unions (Turk-Is) from the talks. Turk-Is announced yesterday that it had decided to withdraw from the Minimum Wage Determination Commission since the government and the employer representatives were not taking their offers into consideration and had failed to meet their demands. The last meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission ended on Dec. 22 without any agreement. Turk-Is had warned after the meeting that they would leave the commission talks if the government offered a lower wage limit than they had demanded. Turk-Is wanted a YTL 720 minimum wage for the new year. The minimum wage was YTL 503 for workers over the age of 16 and YTL 432 for workers below the age of 16. 26 December 2008, Friday

For the second half of 2009,the minimum wage increases by another 4.1% to 547lira per month. Does anyone know if this payment is a calender month or 4 weekly. If this payment is a payment to only one person in the house I don't know how they live on that amount, but if 2 people are working, a 1000 lira plus is going into the house. In Koycegiz, it would be interesting to know what the unemployment rate is, and how many are employed in each household. The black economy will also have an effect.
