Traffic fines for Turkish drivers will increase by around 12 percent as of January 1, 2009.
As of this date, the minimum traffic fine would be 61 Turkish liras (approx. 40.6 USD) and the maximum fine would be 14,210 Turkish liras (approx. 9,473.3 USD).
Vehicles passing during red traffic light would be fined 128 Turkish liras (approx. 85.3 USD) while the fine for high speeds would be 265 Turkish liras (approx. 176.6 USD).
Driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages would lead to a fine of 537 Turkish liras (approx. 358 USD) in the first offense. I wonder what you have to do to get 14,210 Turkish liras fine.

Carry 5 up on a scooter? ?, not changing down a few gears when driving uphill ?, loading 5 ton payloads onto a Tranny Pick-up? ?? There are scores of other reasons where the maximum fine will apply, all it needs is for someone to enforce the law.
