I had to have a new replacement water meter, bought one, 35 lira, had it registered at the water office, had to arrange for a local plumber to fit it, 20 lira, return old meter to water office, so far so good. Our water bill was still registered in the original owners name (5yrs), so we decided to register the account in our name, required copies of Tapu (1), passport (2) Kimlik (2),returned to water office, so far so good again. Signed the necessary forms, and then they hit me with a bill for 185 lira for transferring the account to my name. I should have known better!!!!!!

The next saga.!!!!! When the plumber fitted the meter, I asked him to install it with the dial facing out, to assist the Meter Reader. The Water Office turned up to fit the Seals, they wouldn't accept the installation, they insist the Meter is facing upwards and I have to open up the wall above the meter by 150 - 200 mm., to enable the Meter Reader to read the Meter. Bear in mind the old meter, facing up, has been read for the past 5yrs. in the same recess we fitted the new meter. This is bureaucracy gone mad.
