Miltary Service is compulsary in Turkey and it must be completed between the ages of 18 to 45, with virtally no exemptions. However, by paying an amount of money to the Govt., anyone can serve 21 days instead of 18mths. The decrees and communiqués state that the payment for short-term military service should be paid in euros. The amount of the money to be paid for 21-day military service is: a) 5,112 euros until the age of 38 b) 7,668 euros for those who are older than 38. This could be of interest to male ex-pats who take Turkish Citizenship and automatically become eligible for military service. I believe the only exemption, apart from health reasons, is if you can prove you have completed military service in another country.
