We are visiting Koycegiz for a couple of weeks at the end of August. We are two families and we are just enquiring as to what we can do when we are there. Particular interests are sailing/kayaking/windsurfing and perhaps some trout fishing. Can you hire equipment etc at the lake? Is it expensive?
Also any recommendations as to good restaurants etc.
Any ideas on the cost of food/drink? We are staying in a villa so will be catering for ourselves - any supermarkets etc?
We are also considering hiring cars but it looks like there is enough to be doing on the boats and buses - any comment as to whether car hire is worthwhile?
Given the awful UK weather (pouring as I write) we can't wait!!!!!
Thanks for any replies.

Welcome to the Forum and the information you asked for will probably be somewhere on the Forum. Have a browse through and if you can't find it, ask again. You can hire fishing equipment on the lakeside, don't know anywhere for sailing/ kayaking/windsurfing hire on the lake in Koycegiz, someone may know different. The lake is dangerous after 1pm due to the wind and no one goes on the lake between 1pm and 6pm.The lake is in a conservation area and there are strict rules on what activities you can do on the lake.
We would appreciate a short introduction in "Members Introduction" before anymore postings, see what other members have posted.
Thanks Moderator

Do you know where the villa is situated or have an adress??, this will determine whether you hire a car/s or use the local mini buses, walking any distance in Koycegiz is not really an option in August due to the high temperatures during the day and the humidity after dark. If you need a car, the Forum sponsor hires out cars and does a good price for forum members.
There is not a lot to amuse teenagers in the evenings except for internet cafes and a couple of pool tables in the lakeside bars.
There are a few restaurants by the lake side and its a personal choice which ones to use, Lokantas are plentiful for cheap quick meals.
Plenty of supermakets, depends where you are situated.

Thanks for the reply - we are staying in a villa near OBA Pension.

I know where the OBA Pension is, but can't think of a villa close by, has the villa got a pool, if so, I may know where it is, as not many villas in that area have a pool.
Do you have an adress??, you will need one for the Taxis from the Airport.

We are in a villa in GUMUS CADDESI Street. It does ahave a pool which is shared with another villa.
We are being picked up at the airport so no need to worry about taxis and directions thanks.
Hows the weather on the ground? - forecasts look hot?
Thanks

The villa is the one I thought, it looks OK from the outside, only built about 2yrs ago. Approx. 8-10 mins. walk from centre of village, takes me 30 mins. on a good day!!!!!. There is a supermarket, quite well stocked and reasonably priced, just around the corner, 2 mins. walk. Turn left out of your villa, down to the "main road", turn right, few yards up on the right Hope this helps. Its still very HOT, 36C in the shade on my patio.

Thanks for that - just been out to the shops to get some holiday reading - grey and drizzling so I am looking forward to some guaranteed sun!!!
Rest of the week doesn't look so bad but it is just so unpredictable.
From your info it looks like we will only need a car to go further afield - perhaps just for a week after the market on Monday and afew days chilling by the pool, although taking the bus would perhaps be more interesting to see the local life especially for the kids instaed of from inside an air conned box!!!

The problem with local transport is it takes twice as long to get anywhere because they will stop for anyone who flags them down, and stops anywhere to drop off. Its also relatively expensive, two friends of ours went to Dalyan and I believe it cost them £10 (25 lira) each way, 3 buses and 2 hrs travel, 30 mins by car.
( Broglia ) Bob, if you read this, can you confirm the cost or otherwise put me right.

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your visit to Koycegiz. I was there with my family 3 weeks ago and it was hot and humid! No alternative but to relax and take it easy ;D
When did you plan to visit?
All the best - Bob

Hi Robert, travelling on the dolmus is quite an experience. It can be hot & uncomfortable. But the wife & I have done it on many occasions and it certainly is a great way to meet the local people.
Unfortunately prices have gone up quite a bit and as Peter said, even the short trip to Dalyan can cost a small fortune and take up most of your day.
An alternative might be to ask at Ercin boats if he can drop you in Dalyan and pick you up 4 hours later. Plenty of ime to look round Dalyan - plus you get to visit the mud baths at Sultaniye on the way back. Much more leisurely and only 10 lira a head (you may even get a reduction for the kids.)
If you go down to the lake Ercin are the last boats you get to if you head right.
Enjoy your holiday - Bob

Thanks for the info on transport - looks like we will have a car for at least some of the time but using the boats for some trips sounds quite relaxing.
I see Bulents note for car hire - Bulent, you are our contact when we are there, so se can sort cars when we get there.
