Update for Ataturk Airport. A smoking room scheduled to be opened at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on Wednesday was shut down by an inspector for not conforming to the anti-smoking law that came into effect July 19. According to reports, airport officials spent 70,000 Turkish Liras on the smoking room built for transit passengers. The airport had to install a new ventilation system to accommodate the smoking room and ensure it abided by the county’s new anti-smoking laws. Air from the smoking rooms was to be expelled without entering the airport’s own ventilation system. However, inspectors sent by provincial health authorities examined the room and decided it did not conform to the new regulations. Airport officials had planned to build two more smoking rooms.
