>:( I have been driving in Turkey now for one month and I am appalled at the standard of driving in this area. I find it hard to believe that these drivers are the same lovely people I see every day. I wont mention specific incidents that I have come across because if anyone is driving on these roads they can see for them selves. I am wondering why there is a lack of police cracking down on bad driving. In town I see people on scooters three people with an infant baby driving past local police. I would be interested to know what other members think about this practice especially any Turkish members.

It isn't just this area, this area is tame compared to the cities and surrounding areas. Give yourself another 2 months and you will hardly notice the bad driving around you. My advice is only spend 50% of your time looking through the windscreen and the other 50% checking side mirrors and rear view mirror, at least you see the idiots coming.
Of course you think that 3 or 4 people on a scooter is dangerous, but it is part of their heritage and they are probably a lot safer than us on the road.
The last piece of advice I can offer is to drive 1 metre away from the kerb just like the Turks, this is to allow any scooters room to come straight out of side roads as they always do without looking, and use your horn as and when you feel threatened by the idiots.
Bear in mind that this is Turkey and they ain't going to change overnight and you have to adapt your driving to suit.
