Change in Law Covering Garden Products
The Turkish government have now passed a law banning the open sale of horticultural poisons, pesticides and herbicides and soon they will only be available when ‘prescribed’ by a licensed agricultural engineer.
Any readers who garden in Turkey will have noticed how the range of pesticides and insecticides available, includes many poisons that have been banned in the UK for some time.
These have been readily available in the shops selling agricultural/horticultural products with no apparent control on their purchase.
The Turkish government, no doubt partly because of the cancellation of export orders for tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables with high levels of pesticide, and partly as yet another thread in the on-going harmonisation with the EU programme, have now passed a law banning the open sale of all such products.
The law is now on the statute books and, whilst the shops still continue to sell old stock openly, legally it will soon only be available when ‘prescribed’ by a licensed agricultural engineer.In the meantime, given most garden products have a long shelf life, perhaps you should get down to the nearest shop and lay in a stock of Roundup (weed-killer) while you still can.
