Went to the Ziraat today to close 2 small sterling current accounts, one had £19.00 in and the other had £89.00. It took 1 hour, we signed the relevant paperwork and waited for our money expecting a small service charge, but no,, they said para yok on the small account and paid us 132 lira on the £89.00 account, service charge they told us. At 2.40 lira/ GBP we should have received 259.00 lira, but only given 132 lira for £108.00, so the service charge was 127.00 lira (£52.90 ), more than 50% of the original amount in the Bank Not withstanding the interest the Bank made on £108.00 over 5 yrs, not a lot, but they still made something out of it. So if you have any money in the Ziraat Bank lying dormant, beware of the charges if you decide to close the account.
