Tax on alcoholic beverages up by 30 percent The private consumption tax (ÖTV) on alcoholic beverages was raised from 25.1 percent to 30 percent after a Cabinet decree announcing the increase was published in the Official Gazette on Thursday. With the new tax regulation, the ÖTV on a litre of the traditional Turkish alcoholic beverage, raki, went up to TL 51.48 from TL 39.60 and from TL 44 to TL 57.20 on gin and vodka. The tax on wine from fresh grapes was raised from TL 1.95 to TL 2.44 and climbed from 35 Kurus to 44 Kurus for beer. So the increase on beer is 9 Kurus, which will equate out to an increase of 50 Kurus in the Bars and Restaurants. INFLATIONThe government minister said; " The overheating of the economy shows itself in rising inflation rates, he said. We are no longer worried about overheating, though. The inflation rate is 9.2 percent, but if you adjust for seasonal factors, you can easily see a 6 percent rate. And if you adjust the rates by eliminating the effect of taxes to look at core inflation, it is actually around 3 percent,” So, according to Turkish logic, inflation is 3% if you ignore everything that causes inflation.
