A Turkish friend recently noticed a new Law posted in the Gazette
This is a translation Extracted from Law 6056 recently posted in the “Gazette”
This Law, effective from May 1st 2011, has been instigated by the Ministry of Agriculture in light of complaints by the general public with regards to inconsiderate neighbours and the noise generated by their livestock during the hours of darkness, and this Law refers to” Decibel Levels”. He has only extracted the part that refers to chickens as this, I believe, is relevant to a lot of ex-pats.
“ As from 1/5/2011 there is now a maximum safety level of 100 decibels, during sunset and sunrise regarding chickens, male or female. If you believe the noise exceeds this figure you can now complain to your local Ministry of Agriculture Office, who will investigate using decibel meters. Also, anyone who buys poultry after 1st May needs to apply for a licence from the Min. of Agric. before you can purchase any chickens, male or female”
Anyone breaking the Law incurs a fine of 150 Lira for each offence, which doubles each time on subsequent offences Sample Decibel Levels: 90 Db… Lawnmower: 110 Db… Car Horn:120 Db:… Jet Engine 140 Db:…Firecracker

This is the Law that covers dogs:
Animal Protection Law number 5199
1) Dogs must be registered with the Local Municipality. 2) To prevent uncontrolled births, the dogs have to be neutered. 3) Outside of Private Premises, dog owners must pick up the faeces left by their animals. 4) Dog barking must be controlled, so as not to disturb neigbours. 5) Dogs must be kept on a leash in public places. 6) Dogs must not be allowed to roam, day or night. 7) Every dog must be under veterinary control for health reasons.
Animal Protection Law number 5199 states " Failure to observe this Law will result in Penalties" What a Joke!!
