A friend of mine was in Kipa (Marmaris) and happened to look at the Electric Scooters on sale @ 1200 lira. There was a sign stating that you have to hold a licence ( A2 she thinks ) to ride these scooters and wear a crash helmet. ( HOORAY )I was discussing this with a Turkish friend who confirmed this was the "new law". If this is the case, and not a fairy story, all I can say is ABOUT TIMEThis will stop all the people who wobble around Koygeciz without a clue how to ride or stop in an emergency, plus all the crazy youngsters ( 8 years plus) who tear around being a danger to themselves, other people, and in particular, ME.If it is Law, will the Local Police enforce it, we will see, and at the same time, will they enforce the Law regarding people riding scooters over 50cc without a licence.

HOORAY,HOORAY, Its been confirmed.
According to notices on display in Ortaca Traffic Police Office today, a new law is now in force regarding electric motorcycles and states that a driving licence is required to legally ride them, and a crash helmet must be worn.
Bet they don't enforce it, too much paperwork, too hot and can't be bothered.

Been talking to a good friend of mine who is a Traffic Sigorta and he confirmed the above plus, MINIMUM AGE 17 yrs, must be registered with plates and Police Traffic Insurance. The reason being that there has been so many accidents among the youngsters and having no Insurance that the situation has become untenable. At last, something sensible has happened in Turkey. ;D ;D

Can someone explain in simple terms why the local police are not enforcing this Law, effective from June this year, in Koycegiz. Whether riding an electric scooter or a motor bike without a licence, they are illegal and dangerous.
In the event of them having an accident THEY ARE NOT INSURED and if they are in a collision with me I would sue them for every penny/lira they have, whether its an ex-pat or Turkish rider.I don't have many issues in Turkey but this is one, where people think they are above the Law and it doesn't apply to them.
