Flood Damage Report
More than 150 houses have been rendered uninhabitable in Köycegiz, after heavy rains began Jan. 6 and continued for three days.
Hotels and homes were flooded after the water level rose by up to 3 meters in Köycegiz Lake. The connecting roads to the village became impassable, according to reports.
Köycegiz Mayor Salih Erbay said 150 houses, including his own home, were submerged. “Vehicles and telephone boxes are all underwater; we cannot estimate total damages for now,” Erbay said.
The lake rose by 3 metres due to the amount of water being fed into the lake by the river and rain gullies, the river backed up and burst its banks causing substantial flooding over a wide area.
Hopefully things are slowly getting back to normal and no injuries have been reported.

Very sorry to hear about your floods. I have a friend who used to live near the lake and I haven't heard from her for a couple of years. This is probably the wrong place to search for her but I don't know where else to try. Her name is Jan Mears and I'd be everso grateful if you could let me know if you know her or of any other site where I could search for her. Thank you for your time.
