TRAFFIC police have dished out fines totaling nearly 60,000TL in a month-long campaign across the Aydin region against bikers riding without helmets.
Police officials stopped and fined more than 900 riders as part of an enforcement initiative focusing on Regulation 150 of the Road Traffic Act which states that head protection for riders and passengers is compulsory.
The police crackdown, between September 3 and October 2 saw 903 riders of motorcycles and scooters stopped.
Of that total, 393 were found to be in violation of the rules, including noise pollution from exhausts, driving without the necessary documents or faults to bikes.
A total of 185 motorcycles were banned from the road due to faults contravening safety rules, while police issued 59,672TL in fines.
